Lorraine Mitchelmore Named Chair of 2015 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference

Lorraine MitchelmoreThe Board of Directors of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference (GGCLC) has confirmed Lorraine Mitchelmore as Chair of the GGCLC and Chair of the 2015 Conference. Ms. Mitchelmore is the President and Country Chair of Shell Canada and is an alumnus of the 2008 Conference. She also recently served on the National Executive Committee of the 2012 Conference and spoke at the closing plenary of the Conference in Ottawa.

The 2015 Conference will open in St. John’s, NL on May 22nd and will close two weeks later in Ottawa.

Governor General David Johnston stated, “I am delighted that Lorraine Mitchelmore will Chair the 2015 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.  Lorraine brings to this position her many professional accomplishments, her significant involvement in past conferences, including as a member, and her deep commitment to Canada.  I look forward to the next conference, as Lorraine and her team will certainly work with dedication to bring it to life.”

Retiring Conference chair Annette Verschuren, O.C., praised Ms. Mitchelmore’s many contributions to the success of the 2012 Conference and stated, “Lorraine will assemble and lead a top-notch team to manage the 2015 Conference.  She is a great leader and a passionate Canadian whose global experience will provide an importance perspective to the next generation of conference members.”

Ms. Verschuren will formally hand over the Chair’s duties to Ms. Mitchelmore immediately after the November 22, 2012, Annual General Meeting.

A native of Green Island Cove, NL, Ms. Mitchelmore and her family currently live in Calgary.  She holds a BSc in Geophysics from Memorial University of Newfoundland, a MSc in Geophysics from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and an MBA from the Kingston Business School in London, England.  She is a Director of the Conference Board of Canada, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, and Catalyst Canada, and is a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.

Canada’s most prestigious leadership development experience, the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference  (www.leadershipcanada.ca) was created to broaden the perspectives of emerging leaders in business, unions and government and the community sector so that their decisions are based on a practical understanding of the influence of their organizations on the general welfare of the community. The mission of the conference is threefold: To improve decision-making abilities among young leaders likely to occupy high levels positions in the near future; to facilitate a more progressive era of interaction between leaders from business, labour, government, and the community sector; and

to broaden  understanding of Canada. There have been eight conferences since 1983, when the first conference was chaired by another Shell Canada President and CEO, Bill Daniel.
